Animal experimentation in the UK

Some of you may have followed the various press releases last week and this week regarding animal experimentation in the UK and Europe:

Guardian 13th July 2011

London Metro 13th July 2011

Telegraph  18th July 2011

"As one of the aims of this blog is to keep you up-to-date with MS-related research inevitably some of the posts will be about results from animal experimentation. In fact many of our posts have already covered new findings and insights from animal experiments."

"Our group is committed to the the principles of The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs). We have an Medical Research Council (MRC) grant to develop an animal model to reduce the number of animals we use in our research and we are also pioneering new statistical methods to reduce the length of animal experiments required to test neuroprotective strategies. We are proud of these achievements."

"Despite some comments on this blog that animal models of MS are not useful, we believe that this is not the case. In fact the majority of the current disease-modifying therapies available for MS'ers have come via animal models."

"We would be interested in your comments and thoughts on this subject?"
