Someone asked about the occurrance of MS in Asia for 2008
There is an map of MS just a click away
Some of you sounded surprised that the prevalence of MS in Asia was lower and when adjusted to number per 100,000 of population you can see that it is higher in areas invaded by the Vikings and then the British. So we gave the world MS as well as football and Cricket. There is a north south gradient above the equator and a south north gradient below the equator (vitamin D ?), with the incidence (number of new cases per year) higher in towards the North and South poles.
Historically there is a difference by Race where MS was
higher in white populations than black populations, but as we have seen
from recent data from the American Military this is changing and it
looks like MS is becomming more common, notably in females and so
for the ladies....Mongolia is a bit of a hot spot
.

The Pill i.e. too much oestrogen.
ReplyDeleteI always wonder about the 3:2 ratio in MS.
ReplyDeleteCould this be due to a filtered subset of ppl. visiting a doctor??
If MS Symptoms aren't that bad for a lot of ppl. (benign MS) they wont visit a doctor.
So they wont get diagnosed with MS in the first place.
And as women visit a doctor more often than men this would explain the 3:2 ratio as MS diagnosed ppl are a subset of ppl. feeling sick.
It is interesting that the ratio of ppl. with PPMS is about 1:1.
Because in PPMS the symptoms are ongoing and get worse over years. So people with PPMS may rather visit a doctor.
Check out some of the other postse.g MS in the military MS and women and I don't think it is that simple about women going to the Docs
