Any New Ideas: Pharma funds Research

The drug development pipelines of pharma are not all rosy. You either try and make your own drugs or you buy them in from other companies or from academics.

Neuroscience research in companies has been in decline, GSK moved their UK-based neuroscience to China and some of the big Swiss MS-drug companies have been closing down their MS preclinical research research and development. One of these has been Merck Serono and it is of interest that they have just announced a 1,000,000 euro fund for 1 or more projects that are innovative and translational for treatment of MS. It is no doubt cheaper to acquire new agents than try and invent them.

Recently another company put an advert in Nature for Neuroscience projects. I bet they got a load of applications and so it was a really easy way of getting to see ideas for new targets, without shelling out a penny.
