MS Awareness Week 2013, UK Are you getting Loud?

This week is the MS Week (29 April – 5 May 2013) in UK, in USA it was in March

This week the UK MS Society will be launching a report based on surveys of thousands of MSers. This gives a picture of access to MS treatments and services across the UK... sadly I think I can guess the content....I maybe will do a post once I get my hands on one.

Did you ask your MP to go to a reception in Westminster to get the report: "A lottery of treatment and care – MS services across the UK."

The MS Trust are looking for the SuperNurse, vote today (last Chance today to vote) for winner on 5 May 2013

There are lots more charties and other sites doing their big to raise awareness. What are you doing?

  2. What a waste of time UK MS awareness week is compared to its US and A comparator. This week will deliver little in the way of television coverage, political discussion and broadsheet press attention. The American MS awareness week gets onto national breakfast news, primetime talk shows, and is even showcased on the electronic billboards of Times Square, New York.

Britain has a massive MS community and it’s an illness that affects the people of our country in greater concentrated numbers than the rest of the world. Yet the UK almost seems to ignore MS, brushing it under the carpet rather than giving it the kinds of media discourses other diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's courts.

We need to get MS onto the electronic billboards of Piccadilly Circus or else no-one will discuss it.

    1. I agree with anon 11:41am

The UK has no vision when it comes to getting the plight of MSers out there. Americans know how to build a voice, how to design a campaign.

We ought to have had BBC Breakfast reporting on MS this week, instead of news items on passports for dogs. We will never get useful agendas for MS care in Britain with such a mind set.

Not sure that's entirely fair, the survey showing MS patients access to drugs in the UK by the MS society is covered in the Guardian today. It's a start but much more needs to be done.
