Re-skinning the Blog

As you may realise ProfG has initiated the Re-skinning of the Blog.
Some of you may not like it, some of you may. However, we are responding to our advisory panel of MSers.

Please be patient.....we do not have anyone extra doing this and so this is extra work for people in the team in addition to our/their day jobs.

Likewise, we are not IT people and so we are learning code so please bear with us if some things look funny....it may take some time for the metamorphosis to occur

P.S. Alison has been working hard to sort out the  Drop Down menus

  1. It's a big improvement. Next up: I have a hard time using the scrolling bar on the 'most recent comments' tool - it constantly flicks out of my fingers because of how narrow the bar is... can we make it wider so that the leftward drift of my fingers doesn't cause it to deselect all the time?

    1. Thank you for your positive feedback. We really are trying to make the blog reader friendly.

The "Most Recent Comments" tool is a standard widget that we are using and unfortunately we don't have control over its scroll bar width. We will look into this and see if other options are available to us.

    2. Gotcha. Well, I don't know how the widget works, but if you get access to the raw code I am sure that it is modifiable. Thanks guys!

  3. Nice but where's the advertising? The team needs to be well fed, pay the rent, take lavish trips, drink top shelf liquor etc. etc...:-)

    1. Maybe the google model-clean front end then send you to the sponsors.
Only joking however to run a site on a full cost system would cost thousands.

  5. I would like to have a button at the end of page so that I don't need to scroll up when I finished reading the page.

Also, it would be a great help for my eyes if one could choose the size of font to read from small to big (seen it on other sites -newspapers).

    1. I've been zooming in with the regular browser controls - on Windows Ctrl+.

    3. I can't comment on smartphone or tablet usage (I refuse to have either), but if you are viewing on a normal computer and monitor, just use the Ctrl +Home keys and that will shoot you back up to the top of the page. Ctrl +End will take you to the end of the page, and PageUp/PageDown keys will move things one "screen" at a time.

  7. I like the new look - it's cleaner and fresher, and I certainly don't miss the big heavy blue banner that used to be at the top of the webpage - it did look a bit old fashioned.
