  1. I caught Prof G as he was escaping at the end of Saturday and got my 9-HPT, thank you.
    I stopped at the Sn2 Borage Oil stand, I hadn't heard before that we msers had an omega 6 problem, any thoughts on that?

    1. Yes apparently the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 in every day foods is quite high. Omega 3 promotes a response in our bodies that is anti-inflammatory - this is total laymans terms btw- and so it is often recommended that we supplement with omega 3 e.g. Flax seed to help with ms. I take omega 3 every day...

    3. I have been reading current thinking regarding the whole fat issue, including concerns surrounding the omega 6:3 ratio. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking an omage 6 supplement unless I had good reason to. The leaflet I picked up claims - 'Evidence for slowing the rate of progression', 'Evidence for reduction in relapses and severity', and that because we have ms our ability to convert LA to GLA is reduced. I haven't read this anywhere else though. I hope such bold claims do have data to back them up, but I won't be taking it unless it is recommended by a neuro because current thinking points toward reducing our omega 6 intake.(I also take flaxseed oil daily to boost 3.)

    4. My neuro recommended I eat salmon twice a week to obtain the omegas, which I do

    5. You don't want more omega 6 - it's pro imflammation - boosting the immune system. You want more omega 3 (oily fish, flaxseeds) to be anti inflammatory and reduce inflammation.

    7. The claims on the leaflets were a reference about 3 small studies using Linoelic acid studies not borage oil. One could look at

      Dietary interventions for multiple sclerosis.
      Farinotti M, Simi S, Di Pietrantonj C, McDowell N, Brait L, Lupo D, Filippini G. Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2007 Jan 24;(1):CD004192

      "PUFAs did not have a significant effect on disease progression, measured as worsening of Disability Status Scale. Omega-6 fatty acids (11-23 g/day linoleic acid) had no benefit in 75 relapsing remitting (RR) MS patients (progression at two years: relative risk (RR)=0.78, 95% CI [0.45 to 1.36]) or in 69 chronic progressive (CP) MS patients (RR=1.67, 95% CI [0.75 to 3.72]. Linoleic acid (2.9-3.4 g/day) had no benefit in CPMS (progression at two years: RR=0.78, 95% CI [0.43 to 1.42]). Slight decreases in relapse rate and relapse severity were associated with omega-6 fatty acids in some small studies, however these findings are limited by the limited validity of the endpoints"

      This is a nutriceutical and buyer beware Does Borage = Snake?

    Completed my first test, I'm surprised my ND hand is quicker than my D hand!
